Bromley and Bexley Council to share parking services

BROMLEY and Bexley's councils are to save £270,000 a year by sharing parking services.

The scheme will reduce staffing and IT costs and further savings are expected when the councils’ parking enforcement contracts are combined in 2016.

It follows the merged library service between the two boroughs which was introduced early last year.

The decision to share parking services was taken by the Executive Members of both councils who agreed the plan should begin at the start of the next financial year in April.

Executive Councillor for Environment in Bromley Councillor Colin Smith said: “At a time when local authorities are being pushed to their limits due to cuts in central Government funding, making savings wherever possible remains absolutely vital.”

The merger will cover all aspects of parking, including on and off-street parking operations, management of enforcement and appeals against Penalty Charge Notices.

When things like this are announced why do I get the intense feeling that the public (especially the motoring public) are just about to get stuffed?

Bexley council has a shocking reputation for parking enforcement most of which is documented on http://www.bexley-is
-bonkers.co.uk.

Google PATAS case 2110523461 where the Parking Adudicator ruled "...there is no evidence to enable me to conclude that the device used was properly approved. The PCN is therefore invalid and I must allow the appeal"

So will Bexley come up to Bromley's standard or will Bromley fall to Bexley's?

Bromley is run by toffs, Bexley is run by chavs.

Bromley is green, Bexley is grey.

Bromley costs a bit more yes, but I am prepared to pay that difference.

And I will be taking my mobile phone/camera with me everytime that I need to park.

Maybe the two councils should merge and then we could get rid of half of these councillors that drain our finances with their huge salaries.
