Abbey Wood craftsman Ron Taylor still works full time as he turns 80
2:00pm Friday 15th February 2013 in News By Tim MacFarlan, Bexley and north Kent reporter
Ron Taylor celebrates his 80th birthday at work in Foots Cray.
MOST of us hope to be retired and putting our feet up long before we reach our eighties.
But Abbey Wood craftsman Ron Taylor still works full time despite becoming an octogenarian on January 29.
The Woolwich Road resident works 8am to 5pm as a bench joiner at Stoneham Plc in Foots Cray where he helps produce handcrafted bespoke kitchens.
The grandfather-of-two has a 100 per cent attendance record since joining the firm at the age of 67 and has more than 60 years experience working with furniture.
The widower still does overtime when he can and mentors students on work experience from local schools.
He said: "I’m happy here and a day’s work is easy enough for me.
"As long as I can still get out of bed, I’ll continue to work.
"It keeps me active and I enjoy working with younger people."
Stoneham managing director Adrian Stoneham added: "I wish we’d discovered Ron many years earlier."
