TWO young Eltham men will be whizzing around the Grand Prix circuit at Silverstone - but on foot instead of racing cars.

Brothers-in-law Ben Smith and Liam Melly, 25, are running a half marathon on the motor racing track in memory of Liam’s 12-year-old sister who passed away last March.

Catriona, who was a pupil at St Mary's RC Primary School and St Thomas More RC Secondary School, in Eltham, had Immunodeficiency – meaning she had a very poor immune system and was highly susceptible to infection.

The runners are raising cash for Starlight Children’s Foundation – a wish-granting charity which took animal-lover Catriona by limousine to meet two shetland ponies Tripe and Onions shortly before she died.

Mr Smith, 34, who is married to Catriona's elder sister Patricia, said: "It's going to be a tough run and the training has been difficult but we've been inspired by the memory of Catriona and the charity we're raising money for.

"Catriona went through so much adversity when she was ill but she was always happy so neither of us are going to complain about a few aching muscles from running."
