A BUS heading towards Thamesmead came under attack from a gang of youths in Abbey Wood on Saturday.

An unknown object was launched from the Abbey Wood flyover and smashed the window of the bus, narrowly missing the driver.

According to Brian Barnett, who was onboard the B11 bus between Bexleyheath and Abbey Wood, said trouble flared at Abbey Wood rail station, Harrow Manor Way, at about 2pm.

He told News Shopper: “A black man was about to board the bus when a group of youths, aged about 6 to 18 years old, took his cap from his head and run off with it.

Then as the bus passed the Abbey Wood flyover an object struck the driver’s side of the windscreen.

Mr Barnett, of Wolvercote Road, Thamesmead, added: “It was lucky that no-one was injured, the driver was shaken up but ok.

“The noise inside the bus when the screen smashed caused a bit of a panic and shock.”

The driver continued to Alsike Road to avoid another possible attack before pulling into the Lanridge Road stop and advising all passengers to get off the bus.
