BROMLEY High School alumnus Margaret Hodge MP has been named one of the UK's most powerful women in a BBC survey.

A panel of judges compiled a list of the country's 100 most influential females for Radio 4's Woman's Hour, with Ms Hodge being named among the Queen, Home Secretary Theresa May and author JK Rowling.

Ms Hodge is a Labour politician who has been a Member of Parliament for Barking since 1994.

She was a minister in both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown's governments, and has since returned to the backbench.

After growing up in Egypt Ms Hodge and her family moved to London following World War 2.

She attended Bromley High School as a border.
