Bexley Council lists offices in Hill View, Welling for sale
BEXLEY Council’s offices in Welling have been listed for sale, with staff expected to move out next year.
Inviting bids for the site in Hill View is a step towards savings of around £1million, which the council hopes to achieve by consolidating all its operations to one site.
In May last year, planning permission was given for the council to move into the site of the former Woolwich building, in Watling Street, with some staff members expected to begin work here at the end of this year.
The council has already vacated its former offices in Crayford, Slade Green and Sidcup.
Deputy council leader, Councillor Colin Campbell said: “The financial pressures on the council are increasing, so our long-term plan to reduce our landholdings and the number of buildings we maintain makes better sense than ever.
“By the time Hillview is sold, the refurbishment of the former Woolwich building should be complete and we will have moved our civic offices into the building, saving several million pounds in the process."
Hill View has been used as council offices since 1988.
The 1.8 hectare site was listed on Estate Gazette on Friday and the deadline for bids is March 22.
Any development on the site will require planning permission and will be subject to a public consultation.
