BEXLEY Special Constables and Met Volunteers have been recognised for their thousands of hours service.

An awards ceremony at the Civic Offices in Bexleyheath on January 25 presented 33 certificates.

Eight Met Volunteers were given long service awards and seven others were given certificates for contributing significant hours during 2012.

Bexley has 51 active volunteers who gave more than 8,600 hours in 2012 providing support to services such as libraries and front counters.

Borough Commander Victor Olisa praised their efforts.

He said: "It was a great honour to be able to formally recognise the many people who have devoted such an extraordinary amount of time to do extraordinary things to support policing in Bexley."

Specials and volunteers manager Ann Mansfield added: "I am immensely proud to be part of a team who work so hard and so selflessly to make Bexley a safer place."
