GREENWICH’S top cop has been moved to Croydon for two and a half months to cover for a borough commander on a police training course.

Greenwich’s borough commander Detective Chief Superintendent Richard Wood will be based in Croydon until April 15 while Croydon's Chief Supt David Musker undertakes a senior police strategic command course.

In the mean time, Superintendent Christopher Hafford will step into the breach as top police officer in Greenwich.

Supt Hafford has been part of Greenwich’s senior management team for more than three years and will be helped by Supt Wood as he continues to oversee policing in Greenwich.

Chief Superintendent Wood said: "I’m delighted to be at Croydon and I’m looking forward to building upon the excellent work that Dave and the team here at Croydon have been doing.

"Although I’m only here for a relatively short period of time until Dave’s return, I’m 100% committed to making Croydon an even safer place."
