A SCHOOL for children with severe or profound learning difficulties was presented with a cheque for £1600 by the Orpington May Queen last Friday (January 25).
Benny Feddon, 17, from Carolyn Drive, Orpington, chose Riverside School, Orpington, as the May Queen's charity for 2012 when she was given the position last spring.
She raised the money with the help of the May Queen group, made up of around 40 girls, who have undertaken a number of fundraising activities over the last year.
The group paraded and danced at different carnivals and festivals during the summer.
Miss Feddon's mother, Natalie Feddon, 55, said: "When my daughter presented the cheque both her and I burst into tears.
"We were so proud that we could raise this money for these children who have such extreme difficulties - they deserve so much."
Riverside School said: "Benny came to the school last week and the children were delighted to meet her.
"The money will make a huge difference to the kind of opportunities we can provide for our children."
