NEWS Shopper spent this morning gauging the reaction of the Bromley public to the name-change of The Glades Shopping Centre, which is to be called intu Bromley.

The public’s response was predominantly one of puzzlement and incredulity.

“The Glades is has a very classy ring to it. It is a nice pretty little name.

"You couldn't get anything worse (than intu Bromley).”

"Everyone will just keep calling it The Glades. That is what it has always been and that is what it will always be.”

'Bo**llocks' is my response. Do they actually pay people to come up with this sort of rubbish. They need to get proper jobs. Utter waste of money on signage, paperwork, etc etc - could be spent elsewhere.

At least it is a private company wasting its own money and not the taxpayers.
When will these firms ever learn.
£25M for rebranding,an absolute joke.LOCOG paid a fortune for the Olympic logo,this firm is paying £25m to change its corporate image.
Adidas paid about £5 to a student all those years ago for a logo,and it is still their and still worldwide recognisable.These firms are pathetic.

Bromley has promoted "clean and GREEN" for many years so the Glades is a perfect name for the shopping centre. Not only does the name reflect the borough but the whole decor of the centre is based around greenery.

"Lunch at The Glades" sounds right. "Lunch at the Intu" just sounds ridiculous in addition to mangling the English language,

Just wondering whether any of the tenants of The Glades were consulted before this name change? M&S, Boots, etc., did you guys think what impact it might have?
Crass stupidity like this only ever leads to an eventual sacking of the brilliant mind behind it. Looking forward to seeing that reported in due course.

Its just one of that illiterate ramblings. They are probably preparing it for an influx of pound shops. Perhaps they could introduce a market like in Swanley. Then the good people of Bromley can buy pink size 20 leggings and plastic yellow earrings. It will be good for the social underclass sub culture which will soon spread out from inner London and across Bromley. Ha ha ha...just wait for the huge social housing estate to be built in West Wickham. It will make all those big houses a bit more affordable.

afford Centre which is Manchester etc'! Why can't they choose intuThe Glades and not Bromley? It seems Bromley is going to look a bit odd one out....

Why change at all? The Glades is a perfectly good name well known in places other than Bromley. "intu" smacks of textspeak which has its place when texting but should not be allowed to corrupt the English language.

So let bring this back on topic.... for a moment at least. ( Sorry not trying to tell people what to do, like others do)

To answer your question, I think you should email Capital Shopping Centres as I don't think any of their staff read the NS website, so you will get the information you so desire.

Oh thanks for informing us all that Lakeside was in Essex, it's only been there since 1990. Also what's with the '_' for ? Did you just copy and paste from somewhere?

I am getting fed up with having to frequently remove derogatory comments which are very obviously being aimed at a particular poster.

What seems to be a campaign to target a specific person with insulting comments at every opportunity will not be tolerated.

Those of you who claim never to be abusive need to bear in mind a log of all your comments is kept.

It would be better for everyone if you could abide by the site rules and stick to the topic.
