Police appeal for witnesses to Gravesend A2 crash
POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a crash on the A2 yesterday afternoon which left freezing motorists stranded until the early hours.
A car transporter flipped over on the London-bound side just before 3pm shedding some of its cargo across both carriageways between Pepper Hill and Ebbsfleet.
The carriageway where the crash happened was only fully reopened at around 12.40am this morning (Wednesday 16) as officers assisted stuck motorists and issued blankets.
The driver of the transporter was taken to a London hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries, though he remains in a serious condition.
A motorist, who it is believed was hit by a falling car on the opposite side of the carriageway, also suffered minor injuries though she has since been released from hospital.
PC Paul Soesan of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “I’d like to thank motorists for their cooperation while we assisted the two injured people and recovered the lorry and debris caused from this incident.
“I'd urge anyone with information, including those who saw the transporter before the incident, to contact Kent Police by calling 101.”
Witnesses or anyone with information should call PC Soesan on 101, quoting reference 15-814.
