A BECKENHAM man was furious after buying baby milk which had already passed its best before date.

Jason Cox, 38, of Upper Elmers End Road, bought the full-price SMA product for his baby daughter from the Co-operative store on his road on December 11.

However, when returning home he discovered the best before date was 10 days before (Dec 1).
He said: "It’s not the first time this has happened with this shop.

"I’ve complained about it before."

A Co-operative Food spokesman said: "We apologise for the oversight on this occasion and the store team will receive further training to ensure this is an isolated incident."

Meanwhile a spokesman for Nestlé UK, which owns SMA, said: "Best before dates are more about quality than safety (except for eggs), so when the date runs out it doesn't mean the food will be harmful or unsafe, but it might begin to lose its flavour and texture."
