Expansion of autism school in West Wickham

BROMLEY Council is looking to expand a specialist school for autistic children due to pressure on spaces.

The Glebe School in Hawes Lane, in West Wickham, in Hawes Lane, will be able to include 156 pupils in total and will meet the demand for 80 secondary school aged pupils with autism.

The school, which has been rated by Ofsted as outstanding, has a proven track record for its expertise in the field by providing specialised support.

Without the proposed expansion, specialist  support would have to be sought in the independent sector.

Councillor Stephen Wells, Executive Member for Education said: "We now want to hear the views of residents, and in particular parents of children with autism of secondary and primary school age, on the proposals."

The consultation will run until February 15. Any outcomes will be reported to a Council committee for a final decision on March 19.
