Stones thrown at M25 vehicles close to Dartford Crossing
MOTORISTS using the Dartford Crossing are being warned after stones were thrown at moving vehicles from a bridge on Saturday (JAN 11).
Police officers in Thurrock launched an investigation after two drivers reported items had been thrown at their vehicles as they passed through Junction 30 of the M25, less than two miles outside the Dartford Tunnel.
The first incident occurred at 1:30pm when three children were spotted on the Stafford Road Bridge throwing stones at passing traffic on the motorway.
A lorry driver also contacted police on the same day to say he had experienced a similar situation, with minor damage being caused to his cab windscreen.
At the time of both incidents, foot officers and the Essex Police helicopter searched the immediate area but no suspects were traced.
Essex Police Chief Inspector Justin Smith said: "This is very serious and it is fortunate that these incidents did not result in any injuries. “These children may think it is just a game but it is so very stupid and dangerous.”
The children spotted on the bridge are described as two boys and a girl, thought to be two teenagers and a younger child.
According to witnesses, the girl was wearing distinctive pink trousers.
Chief Inspector Smith added: “I would ask parents to please talk to your children and make sure it is not them that are responsible because this is a crime and we will arrest anyone found committing these acts.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at Grays police station on 101.
