NHS advises north Kent residents how to avoid illness this winter
7:52am Friday 11th January 2013 in News By Alan Woods
WITH temperatures set to plummet in the coming weeks, the NHS is urging people to take basic steps to stay healthy this winter.
The most important advice to prevent illness – such as tummy bugs and flu – is to wash your hands regularly and well.
This is particularly vital for the young and old, as well as those preparing food for both groups, as they are most susceptible to illness.
Chairman of the Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley Clinical Commissioning Group Dr Bhaskar Bora said: “There are many people with chesty coughs and sore throats this winter.
“Most of these illnesses and flu are caused by viruses and antibiotics have no effect on them.
“Make sure you get some rest, drink plenty of fluids and you should start to feel better after about a week.”
Dr Bora says if you need to see a doctor, you should call your GP and say it is urgent.
