900 Locksbottom homes still without gas due to burst water main
MORE than 900 homes in the Locksbottom area are still without gas four days after water got into the gas network from a burst water main.
So far 50,000 litres of water has been pumped out of the gas network and work to remove more water will continue today.
Around 1,650 homes were affected when a water main burst near the Barclays bank in Crofton Road and water leaked into the gas pipes.
Southern Gas Networks (SGN) has restored the supply to around 750 homes, which has involved individual visits from our engineers to carry out safety checks and reconnections.
An SGN spokesman said: “We would like to thank all our customers for their continued patience while we are carrying out this difficult and time-consuming work.
“This is also a good time for people to be good neighbours and check to ensure anyone elderly or vulnerable who is living nearby is looked after and safe.”
Anyone with any concerns about gas safety should call the national gas emergency number on 0800 111999.
The SGN customer service line is 08450 701431.
