A MAN in his 70s has been arrested in Shortlands in connection with the Jimmy Savile inquiry.

Ted Beston, a former producer of Savile’s radio shows in the 60s and 70s, was apprehended at his home early this morning.

Officers working on Operation Yewtree are investigating allegations of sexual abuse by the former BBC star and others.

A Met Police statement said: “A man from London was arrested at 6.30am on suspicion of sexual offences and has been taken into custody at a south London police station.

“The individual falls under the strand of the investigation we have termed 'Savile and others'.”

Reports at the scene say photographers were packed outside the former BBC employee’s house throughout the morning before leaving at around 1.30pm.
