AN EBBSLFEET United footballer has been jailed after being convicted of rape.

Patrick Ada, 27, who denied the charge, was sentenced to five years at Woolwich Crown Court on Tuesday (December 11).

A spokesman for the Met said: "Ada met his victim in a nightclub in central London in the early hours of March 1 this year.

"He returned to the woman's house in Woolwich where the rape occured.

"Ada was arrested later that day and charged on Friday, March 2 with the rape."

Conference club Ebbsfleet said in a statement: "Patrick Ada came to us pre-season and was signed on a fixed term agreement pending his court appearance.

"In reaching our decision to offer him a contract we took the view that any individual is innocent until proven guilty. "It was on that basis the contract was offered and agreed.

"In terms with this agreement his contract has now been terminated."

The Cameroon-born defender previously played for Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premier League.

Ada was playing for English League Two club Burton Albion at the time of the sex attack.
