RECOVERING from breaking her hip did not stop a great-grandmother partying on her 102nd birthday.

Grace Pearce tucked in to her favourite dish of chocolate cake with her family and friends as entertainer Jamie Steen sang old favourites to entertain them.

And she thoroughly enjoyed opening all the gifts and cards she received at The Heathers care home, Farnaby Road, Shortlands.

When asked her secret of old age, she said with a smile: “Just be happy.”

The Heathers manager Helen Johnson said: “Grace is truly amazing.

“She not only has reached the grand age of 102 but has also recently recovered from breaking her hip."
