RESPLENDENT in their red and white outfits a sea of Santas kickstarted the Christmas celebrations in Bromley town centre.

Around 600 of them took part in a 2km dash which finished in the High Street where shoppers were enjoying festive entertainment.

After the last Santa Claus crossed the finishing line the real Father Christmas was the star of a parade on his sleigh with elves and two live reindeers.

And then the bearded wonder was joined by friends including Mickey Mouse and some of the Santa dashers to put the finishing sparkle to Sunday’s fun (December 2) by turning on the Christmas lights in the High Street.

Bromley town centre manager Lorraine McQuillan said: “The Santa Dash was such a spectacular way to get Christmas off to a great start this year.

“The town centre filled with Santas really added to the festive atmosphere.

“We also had Christmas carol singing and street entertainment and the traditional parade which included Santa and two live reindeers so it was a great day out for all the family.

“The Christmas lights switch-on and fireworks finale certainly made Bromley town centre sparkle and the lights can now be enjoyed by shoppers in the run up to the big day.”

And the portfolio holder for renewal and recreation Councillor Peter Morgan said: “The Santa dash, fireworks and festive entertainment in Bromley town centre provided a spectacular day for everyone who braved the cold to enjoy their town and have fun with their families.”
