CHURCHGOERS in Sidcup were treated to a festive display of decorative Christmas trees this week.
Visitors to the St John the Evangelist Church, in Church Road, were able to enjoy a collection of 32 decorated trees during the 10-day Christmas tree festival.
Each tree was sponsored by a different school, club or organisation and the display included artificial and real trees.
The display, which is the first ever to be staged at the church, was officially opened by the Mayor of Bexley, Councillor Alan Downing, and MP for Old Bexley and Sidcup James Brokenshire on November 20.
Choirs from Orchard Primary School and Merton Court School were among the performances at the closing ceremony on Sunday (December 2).
The Mayor of Bexley said: “This is a wonderful occasion and I wish the church every success in this, their first Christmas Tree Festival.”
Funds from the festival will be split between the upkeep of the church and Demelza Children’s Hospice.
