There’s no need to cross the Atlantic for amazing American-style burgers – the bosses of USA grub have returned to Bromley.

After years away from town, the original founders of Madisons are back with a wilder menu than ever.

I always thought llamas were only found in petting zoos and farms.

But oh how wrong I was – these tender beasts are also available in burger form for adventurous customers at this charming diner.

My colleague and I went along to the recently re-opened restaurant to welcome back its passionate owners and taste their exciting new dishes.

We began our culinary voyage to the land of Stars and Stripes with a selection of starters fit for the proudest of yanks.

The succulent meat on my BBQ ribs fell off the bone and the hot Jalapeno Poppers (spicy peppers with cream cheese and a peppercorn dip) were an instant favourite.

For pescatarians there are delicious, obviously freshly handmade, salmon fishcakes to enjoy along with perfectly crisp tempura prawns.

Chicken wings are perhaps my top reason to visit America, with so many British restaurants ignoring these tasty joints.

But at Madisons, Buffalo Wings fit perfectly within the starters menu and stirred up gleeful memories of Florida for me with each bite – who cares about getting messy when it tastes this good?

Whatever you do, be sure to save room for one of the wild burgers.

Saddle up partner - you’re in for the tastiest ride of your life.

Carnivores can choose from llama, wildebeest, springbok, bison and wild boar if they feel like venturing off the beaten track.

Apparently, llama is a very tender meat reminiscent of lamb and beef with a sweet edge.

Although intrigued, I went for the Wild Boar and Stilton (£9.95), desperate to try the luxurious-sounding combo.

It was a wise choice.

I appreciate cheese in the same way a starving mouse does, so it was impossible to ignore this stilton-infused gem.

Leaner than pork, the wild pig was sweet and intense and far more satisfying than a regular beef burger.

I absolutely loved it and recommend it to any red-blooded blue cheese and meat fans – yum.

Celebrate Madisons’ long-awaited return to Bromley with a fresh, unusual and delicious adventure into the wild.
