BROMLEY dance groups tapped their way to success in an attempt to break a world record for charity.

This nationwide event,  organised by the Performers Project in aid of Children in Need, aimed to have the highest number of tap dancers dancing the same routine simultaneously across the UK.

The first tapathon took place in 2010 and since then the annual events have given newcomers of all ages a chance to try out the dance for themselves.

Michelle Sidwell Academy of Dance organised their record-breaking attempt, in Chislehurst Methodist Church, Prince Imperial Road.

Thirty-two dancers took part in the event on November 18.

Organiser Michelle Sidwell said: "We raised about £800 which we are really chuffed about."

Dance fusion director Amanda Pooley organised another tapathon in Orpington Methodist Church, in  Sevenoaks Road, of 39 dancers, raising around £400.

She said: "It was brilliant. Everyone really enjoyed it."

Children in Need helps disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

It is thought the world record was not broken.
