LONG-SERVING foster carers have been rewarded by Bexley Council for their hard work.

Carers from eleven fostering households, who have been serving for five to 30 years, were given a certificate and bouquet of flowers on November 15.

Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Councillor Katie Perrior, said: “You have to be a special kind of person to be a foster carer. We are privileged to have some amazing people looking after our children.

“Everyone at this event deserves a medal and more for the hours of dedication and care they put in and the experience they bring to the role.

"I hope that those carers here today will go on to accumulate even more years with us in Bexley.”

Among the longest serving carers was Bexley’s Diane Boon who has been fostering in Bexley for 15 years. She looks after teenage girls.

She said: "You have to be committed to be a foster carer and be prepared for anything!

“One of the best things about fostering is seeing a young person leave your home independent and happy and go on to make something of themselves."
