A DEDICATED police duo employed to patrol Bexleyheath Broadway have had a successful first month in the job.

Since starting in October, PC’s Howard Rootsey and Martin Hedderman have detained 22 people and arrested 16 of them.

They have also issued three fines for shoplifting in the Broadway and helped three stores with civil recoveries following theft.

The pair has been specifically employed by Bexleyheath Business Improvement District to help and support businesses in the Broadway.

Bexley Council leader, Councillor Teresa O'Neill, said: "These two officers have made a huge impact in a short space of time and will go a long way to making Bexleyheath town centre an even safer place."

Chairman of the Bexleyheath Business Partnership Ross Paton said: "Bexleyheath businesses decided this would be an excellent use of their money.

"One of our main priorities is to help people visiting the town centre to feel safe, as well as reducing crime experienced by retailers."
