A NEW Cross policing team has been shortlisted for a London-wide award for bravery and professionalism – and you can vote for them to win.

The New Cross Safer Neighbourhoods Team is one of four teams put forward for the Commissioner’s Excellence in Total Policing Award after crime significantly dropped in their patch during 2012.

One of their novel crime-reducing tactics has been posing as homeless people to blend in and catch criminals.

They have also enforced the controlled drinking zone with a zero-tolerance stance – making 35 arrests and confiscating 179 alcoholic items.
