CHRISTMAS came early for skaters at the official opening of the ice rink at Ruxley Manor Garden Centre in Sidcup yesterday (November 10).

Television star Laura Hamilton opened the attraction by wowing the crowds with a display of some of the moves which saw her come runner up on Dancing on Ice last year.

Members of the public, including special guests from Demelza House children’s hospice, were then able to skate with her before she had the difficult task of teaching me some skating moves.

After my lack of success skating backwards we both agreed for her health it was best not to try doing a lift.

The garden centre’s manager director Andrew Evans said: “We are all about trying to provide a great Christmas experience, with our grotto, our new restaurant and now the ice rink.

“We have built the grotto up over the last five or 10 years and we thought we would like to do something for the older children and give people of all ages a great Christmas."

Mr Evans added: “Laura Hamilton was the first woman to get perfect 10s on Dancing on Ice and I thought she would be the perfect choice to come and open the ice rink.”

The ice rink is open at the garden centre in Maidstone Road, Sidcup, until January 6.
