A FLASHMOB dancing stunt earned Bexley Stop Smoking Service an award this week from the British Heart Foundation for most unusual and innovative event.
The campaign group had people suddenly breaking into dance in Bexleyheath town centre, in March this year, to Saturday Night Fever’s Staying Alive.
Awards were given to groups who contributed to No Smoking Day in March 9 2012.
Bexley Stop Smoking Service fought off 80 other entries to win the title.
Dargons’ Den star Duncan Bannatyne, Ambassador for No Smoking Day, said: “Bexley Stop Smoking Service showed bags of energy and creativity in the way it helped inspire smokers to quit on No Smoking Day.
“I hope other organisations in London will take up the mantle next year and follow their outstanding example.”
More than 750,000 people tried to quit smoking on No Smoking Day last year. Next year’s will be on March 13 2013.
