DANNY Baker's radio show has been axed by BBC London to cut costs, the Deptford DJ has revealed.

The Millwall fan, whose show goes out on weekday afternoons, announced the news today to his 180,000 Twitter followers.

After the announcement, he kicked off this afternoon's show with Queen's Radio Ga Ga and later referred to BBC bosses as "weasels" and "phoneys" while saying today's show would be his last.

He told listeners that he had only found out about the axing of his show from overhearing "two people on the tube".

Towards the show's finale he claimed he was "dealing with people who should choke to death on their abacuses" and raged about the low pay of his co-presenters.

He finished by telling listeners: "We don't want to leave. We're being told to leave by people we've never met who don't listen to the show and certainly don't listen to you."

The DJ earlier wrote on Twitter: "So. Just been told the BBC London Show - the Treehouse - is to be shut down after all. Saves BBC money apparently."

Mr Baker, who also hosts a show on 5Live, went on: "Also. I am being "inducted" into The Radio Hall Of Fame next week. Big honour. BBC salutes by cutting five sixths of my shows."

The south east London motormouth later wrote: "Hey BBC Middle management! Seriously. I'll be fine. Don't feel bad! I can sell these."

He then posted a picture of him holding three Sony Radio Academy Awards.

Danny is one of the most innovative and imaginative presenters on Radio London. Trust the BBC to cut something that people want to listen to.

Danny often refers to his childhood and where he was brought up with fondness and humour. Danny is a true SELondoner.

One of the best shows on radio!
Typical BBC idiots, no idea of what the people actually listen too, but a chance to save a few quid.
No doubt he'll be replaced by some 'Yes Man' who'll tow the BBC's party line.

I like DB's shows, but wonder where he would be if the BBC had adopted the 'holy cows' attitude before he came along - would we still be stuck with the likes of Noel Edmunds or Dave Lee Travis - heaven forbid even Peter Powel!

Being a night owl through work and my social life I miss Big George Webley.
Any one remember Big George ? He was a legend among us night owls.

You are right Madras we do need to have a clear out once in a while things do get stale.
