TWENTY-ONE talented young athletes have been chosen for Bexley Council's Sporting Best scheme.
This year’s crop of elite performers includes Bexleyheath's 19-year-old Jamie and 21-year-old Oliver Thomson - world silver medallists in canoe polo.
Athletics, badminton, taekwondo, fencing, rowing, gymnastics and baton twirling are among the other sports represented.
Now in its fourth year, the scheme has been developed in partnership with Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd, who provide funding and other support for young sports stars competing at national and international level.
Cabinet member for sport and leisure, Councillor Don Massey, said: "This year’s selection process was extremely difficult because of the fierce competition, but we have selected a group of youngsters with incredible potential, many of whom have their eye on competing at Rio 2016 and beyond."
