POLICE are investigating an armed robbery at a post office in Welling.

It is believed two men entered the post office in Wrotham Road at around 12.45pm yesterday (October 30).

One man was believed to be armed with a firearm described as a shotgun while the other is thought to have had a sledgehammer.

The men demanded money but made off from the scene empty-handed.

The suspects were driven off in a car described as a black Audi estate, driven by a third man.

There are no reports of any injuries and no shots were fired.

Officers from the Flying Squad based at Tower Bridge are investigating.

No arrests have been made.

A Post Office spokeswoman said: "Post Office Ltd can confirm that an attempted robbery took place at Wrothan Post Office branch in Welling on 30th October.

"Thankfully no one was injured in the incident.

"Post Office Ltd will also be supporting the police in their efforts to apprehend those responsible."
