ROYAL Mail has confirmed South Darenth post office will not close next month.

News Shopper previously reported how a campaign had been launched to keep the counter, which is located inside Hobbs Pharmacy in Holmesdale Road, open beyond November 15.

Sevenoaks MP Michael Fallon suggested a dispute between the pharmacy and the post office was the reason for the proposed closure.

But now Royal Mail has announced it will not shut in November.

A spokesman said: “We have received confirmation South Darenth post office will not now close on 15th November and that the temporary agent will continue to operate the branch until further notice.”

Mr Fallon previously sent a letter to Royal Mail managing director Paula Vennells objecting to the proposed closure.

He explained: “I know the post office is a vital lifeline to many in the local area, particularly the elderly.

“From the petition I saw, the problem certainly isn’t lack of demand for service.”
