London 2012 Olympics shooting venue at Woolwich Barracks to be dismantled

WORK starts today on deconstructing the London 2012 Olympics shooting venue at Woolwich Barracks.

The temporary venue will undergo a dismantling programme before the ground is returned to the Ministry of Defence (MOD) by the end of next March.

There will be three phases to the work, with the 25-metre range dismantled and removed from site and first section of land handed back to the MOD by the end of this year.

In early 2013, the finals range, 50/10-metre and outdoor ranges will be dismantled and taken away, with everything else finished by March

Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) project sponsor Richard Arnold said: "The ODA would like to thank the local community for their support throughout the construction and operation of this venue.

"We will now work to ensure the site is decommissioned as quickly as possible and handed back the MOD in its original condition."
