LEWISHAM Healthcare NHS Trust has invested £700,000 in state-of-the-art operating theatre facilities.
One of its dedicated orthopaedic theatres, which will be used predominantly for emergency trauma cases, is among several majorly upgraded.
Director of surgery Nabil Salama said "Lewisham consistently has one of the lowest rates of hospital acquired infection in London, and we are always looking at ways to improve this".
"Our brand new laminar air flow ventilation system is one of the most modern in the country and meets all the latest Department of Health best practice standards".
Chairwoman of the Patient Welfare Forum Jeanette Chattington said: "This is just the latest in a long line of improvements at the Trust, and the hospital has really benefited from a major investment programme in recent years."
