AN ORPINGTON gym raised almost £2,000 for a hospice charity by pulling a double decker 50 metres.
Ripped Muscle and Fitness, in Orpington High Street, was the first group to sign up for the event which saw teams race against each other to pull double decker buses in the quickest time over the course.
Although the gym was narrowly defeated in the final, it was the team which achieved the most amount of sponsorship for the event, raising £1,870 for Harris HospisCare.
Gym owner Lee Chapman said: "We had a fantastic day and were gutted we didn’t win the trophy.
"However, the most important thing was getting money for the hospice.
"The gym is very proud to have raised as much as it did."
The Bus Pull Challenge, which was part of the hospice’s Team Jake Appeal in memory of former patient Jake Cashmore, has now raised more than £4,000 altogether.
These funds will help the charity continue to provide free specialised care and support to people with cancer and other life-limiting conditions in the borough.
