A 28-YEAR-old man has been arrested after a stabbing in Erith this afternoon (October 23).

Emergency services were called to Avenue Road at 1:11pm where they found a 49-year-old man with what appeared to be knife wounds.

Shortly afterwards, police arrested a man on suspicion of assault and he was taken into custody at a south London police station.

Nikky Markin, aged 30, described how the attacker begun his rampage by stabbing a black Rotweiler dog in one of his neighbour’s flats at Coronation Court.

She told News Shopper: “His neighbour was shouting ‘they have stabbed my dog’.

“I went into his flat and the dog was bleeding from its neck and from its bum.

“He tried to stem the bleeding with a tea-towel.

“There was just blood on the walls and on the floor – the place was full of blood.”

Eye witnesses say the suspect then headed out of Coronation Court and towards Avenue Road, where he stabbed his 49-year-old victim.

Emma Williams, aged 29, of Coronation Court, also described the chaotic scene.

She said: “Someone came in to tell the man to be quiet and he stabbed his dog quite a few times.

“Then he ran away off to Avenue Road and stabbed someone by the old people’s home.

“Who is to say he won’t come out and attack my children?

“Our kids play out there, this is their garden.

“He could have done something to them.”

An eye-witness who lives near to the scene in Avenue Road told News Shopper: "I returned home to find the road cordoned off and police officers and police dogs everywhere.

"I asked a police officer and he just said a suspect had jumped into rear gardens but has since been detained and taken to Bexleyheath Police Station."

London Ambulance Service confirm they sent an ambulance crew, a duty manager and a medical team in a car to the scene.

Avenue Road remains closed this afternoon.

Bexley CID Detective Chief Inspector Gary Holmes said: “I would like to reassure the public there is no further risk as a suspect has been detained.

“I am appealing for witnesses to this incident and ask them to contact 020 8284 9171 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
