A PETITION has been launched against the proposed closure of South Darenth post office.

The post office, located inside Hobbs Pharmacy in Holmesdale Road, is due to shut its doors for good on November 15.

A dispute between the pharmacy and the post office is suggested to be the reason for the impending closure of the facility.

Parishioners have already circulated a petition opposing the closing the closure and a Facebook group has been established to rally support.

Sevenoaks MP Michael Fallon has also backed the campaign and has written to the Post Office managing director Paula Vennells.

Mr Fallon said: “The manager of Hobbs has contacted me with some very serious concerns about the conduct of the Post Office Ltd in dealing with the contract.

“I know the Post Office is a vital lifeline to many in the local area, particularly the elderly, so I’ve written to the managing director of the Post Office and asked her to put some heads together to sort this out.

“From the petition I saw, the problem certainly isn’t lack of demand for service.”
