A NECKLACE thief who snatched a gold chain from around a woman’s neck in New Cross is wanted by police.

A 64-year-old woman was left shaken after a man ripped the jewellery from her as she swiped in her Oyster card at New Cross Gate station on August 2.

The man is believed to have run off towards New Cross Street after the theft which took place around 6am.

A man was caught on CCTV and British Transport Police (BTP) would like to speak to him in connection with the incident.

Detective Constable Mark Agrippa said: “Fortunately, the victim was unharmed but was still left very shaken by what took place.

“We’re making local enquiries into the incident and also want to hear from anyone who was at the station at the time and can assist our investigation.

“If you recognise this man and think you can tell us who he is, we want to hear from you.”
