Police appeal after man robbed of car while stopped at traffic lights in Gravesend
5:25pm Monday 22nd October 2012 in News By Alan Woods
Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
A DRIVER was smashed in the face by thieves before having his car stolen while parked at traffic lights in Gravesend.
Police officers were called to Valley Drive at 5:45pm yesterday (October 21) to reports of a blue Lexus IS200 being stolen.
While waiting for the traffic lights to turn green, the driver was approached by two men who struck him in the face with what he describes as a ‘heavy object’.
His vehicle was then driven away by the two men and the car’s owner was taken to Darent Valley Hospital where he was treated for facial injuries.
Ninety minutes later – shortly after 7:15pm – the stolen blue Lexus was picked up by an unmarked police patrol car in Northfleet high street.
When the two men inside realised police were onto them, the driver reversed at speed and collided with a police car and a grey Nissan Pixo.
Two motorists inside the Nissan were taken to Darent Valley Hospital suffering from whiplash.
Both suspects fled from the Lexus on foot and police are now appealing for information to trace them.
The first man has been described as white, believed to be approximately 25 years old, of medium build with short black hair, and was wearing a dark blue jacket.
The second was white, also approximately 25 years old, of medium build with brown cropped hair and was wearing a white shirt.
