LIFE sentences have been given to a pair of thugs who killed a man by kicking him, stamping on him and jumping on his body.

The Old Bailey was told today (September 26) that Dennis Hind and Tutu Kabalika seemed to find their attack "amusing", circling their victim "like hyenas".

Hind, aged 21, and Kabalika, aged 20, were on their way home from a party, high on drink and drugs, when they came across Stephen Miller, aged 45, outside his home in Middle Park Avenue, Eltham, on August 24 last year.

Mr Miller, who suffered from headaches, had left his flat to get some fresh air.

But for unknown reasons, the two men attacked him.

Judge David Paget told them: "Between you, you kicked him, stamped on him and jumped on his body.

"He begged you to stop but you went on.

"One witness described the two of you circling him like hyenas and taking turns to kick him as you would kick a football.

"One witness described him being used like a trampoline."

The assault only ended when two men from a nearby flat called the police and scared the pair off with their Staffordshire bull terrier.

The judge said: "Despite your drunken condition, both of you then stopped and left the area at once.

"It must follow that you knew what you were doing."

Mr Miller was left with 15 broken ribs and 46 injuries to his head and neck.

He died in hospital a few hours after the attack, without regaining consciousness.

Mitigating for Hind, Lauren Soeritsz said her client, a former boxer from Churchbury Avenue, Eltham, had low intelligence and would not leave the house unless he had taken drugs or alcohol.

She said: "Mr Hind would not have carried out the action that he did if it were not for his particular condition on that night."

And the court was told part-time plasterer Kabalika, of Picardy Road, Belvedere, had been binging on alcohol and drinking constantly since his birthday on August 19.

During the trial both men had denied inflicting the fatal blow on Mr Miller, but on July 10 they were both convicted of murder.

The judge told them: "As you kicked and stamped Stephen Miller to death, you found it amusing."

He highlighted the fact that the pair had not intended to kill "but to cause really serious injury"and the act was not premeditated Hind and Kabilaka were each given a life sentence and told they would serve a minimum of 15 years in jail.

Sentencing them, the judge said: "You two men attacked and killed another man, Stephen Miller, essentially for no reason except that both of you were very much the worse for drink and drugs."

Hind has quite a thick neck (though not as thick as his head) but I am sure I could find a rope to fit it.

What a pair of smug bags? What nasty, gross people. How could they do something like that, Hopefully in prison they might get beaten up and hopefully end up the same way. Bet their parents are proud of those too, what horrible people, nasty ****

Unfortunately we will see more and more of this behaviour. The youth of today has no boundaries because they have never been disciplined and think that they are invincible.

I love the mitigation
Mr Hind would not have carried out the action that he did if it were not for his particular condition on that night

I never realised that it was ok to beat a person to death if you were under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Why any law professional would use that in mitigation is beyond me.

What these thugs did is inexcusable and should have resulted in a much longer custodial sentence. How will they ever be deemed fit to live in a civilised society?

How proud their parents must be, mind you saying that, that's if they have any, perhaps they were spawned by the The Devil himself, they are both ugly enough to have been, hope they have nightmares and sleepless night forever and a day.

If there is any cause for bringing back hanging it's for these disgusting pair. These gutless pair don't deserve to ever be let out. I feel so sorry for the man's family, it was a terrible way to lose your life.

These two are evil, no question about it.

To take pleasure in victimizing someone who has done nothing wrong to you is pure evil.

Unfortunately there always have been these types of scumbags with us and even more unfortunately there are more of them walking our streets now than ever. Evil.

I think these low lifes transcend colour, creed, nationality.....

Another case for bringing back hanging for these two. That way would ensure they would never do it again. and show to other vermin that it will not be tolerated any longer regardless of what do-gooders think.

i dont really know where to start, firstly it was an appaling unprovocked attack, & my thoughts r wiv stephens family. it's ok people pointing the finger at judges for not giving longer sentences, but when they do all the same people then whinge, "tax payers money" so yet again money comes first, i know 1st hand prison don't always learn people, & it's there familys wot suffer, send them 2 war if they get killed then the life 4 a life saying worked.

I think a thank you should go to the 2 people that went to try and stop this it must have took some guts to go and confront them. Its just a shame that something couldnt have been done sooner then maybe Mr Miller would still be alive. RIP Mr Miller.

I read complaints from people about how much it will cost keeping animals like this in prison. Does anyone really know how much it will cost us poor tax payers too keep the two for the next fifteen years?
What about poor Mr Miller he won't rise from the dead after fifteen years and get back to his life will he.
I firmly believe that the ultimate punishment should go with the ultimate crime; A life for a life.

Notice you dont mention the other one at all. Wonder why that might be? Wouldn't be that he's black, by any chance, would it?

What has the colour of his skin got to do with it? Do away with them both!!

They were obviously off their heads at the time. Therefore it seems a bit harsh to kill them even though the crime is so appalling.

I can't believe David W is trying to bring race into this. There's a white guy and a black guy which doesn't fit into his pre-conceived ideas and so he's trying a different tack by attacking a poster. Pathetic.

15 YEARS..... cobblers hang them now and then lets start sterilising people with low IQs, we need to stop the families who have children and have no morals or values, you know who i mean you see them hanging around our shops and towns. No more scum families.

I see Fred an Carl have automatically spung to the wrong conclusion by seeing red when the word 'black' is used. If you had bothered to have read what I said, instead of having a knee-jerk, defencive reaction, then you might understand the actual context. But to help you, my critisism was aimed at Erastus Theobald Piggott for only picking up on the white criminal of the two and not commenting on both of them. Mind you, I notice that the pair of you never commented on that either. Double standards ring a bell boys?

This pair of animals should be locked up for life! An innocent man has lost his right to life, an eye for an eye! They should lose the right to a free life. They will still be young when they are released and prison will not reform them, it is inbred, they should be incarcerated for life and the key thrown away. I hope they suffer for the rest of their lives!

Oh yeah, Dennis Hind was such a lovely boy he went round threatening to kill, and bullied young boys. And by the way yes i do know him unfortunately. He is exactly where he belongs, shame he won't stay there for the rest of his life. Having no confidence does not give anybody the right to take somebody else's life or to make other peoples life a misery.

Sorry I know this thread was started ages ago but i've only just read it and can't help but comment, regardless of whether anyone reads this or not.
I knew Dennis well, in fact I was in the year above him at school. From the moment I met him I knew he would end up in prison for something terrible, he used to bully kids in school all the time and was quite honestly the most horrible person you could ever meet, i'm very surprised that one of his good friends in school whose name I won't mention is not in prison for a similar crime to, i'm sure it will only be a matter of time. I remember the incident when he beat a guy up with only one arm and I also remember an incident when he smashed a bus back window. You really could not ask to meet anyone more thugish and intimidating, seriously this guy is true scum.
As for drink and drugs, being under the influence has nothing to do with this issue, I am a regular drink and drug user (yes have a go if you want I really don't care) and I can safely say that not once have I ever wanted to hurt someone let alone kill them! Stop blaming drink and drugs on this case, its got nothing to do with substances, Dennis commited this crime because he is a horrible, vile and disgusting individual and as for all of his mates who have backed him up in this thread, all you have done is make him look even worse by showing just the sort of 'intelligent' company this piece of scum likes to keep. Dennis I knew it would only be a matter of time before I looked in the paper and saw your name in it, i'm just sad that your not in nick for good! Or even better swinging from Tower Bridge with a rope around your neck!
