Rogue traders jailed

FATHER and son rogue traders have been jailed after conning 43 elderly and vulnerable people out of more than £880,000.
William Smith, aged 41, and his 21-year-old son Billy Nelson Smith pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud and money laundering charges.
While running B. Smith & Sons builders from January 2003 to September last year, they charged thousands of pounds for work which was overpriced, unnecessary, substandard or never completed.
One example was charging an 82-year-old woman £10,000 to paint her roof.
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Tristan Kluibenschadl from Kent police said: "The group sought out elderly and vulnerable people and exploited them in the most shocking way, using scare tactics to ensure they parted with their life savings in many cases."
William Smith, of Carlton Avenue, Greenhithe, was sentenced to eight years and four months for conspiring to defraud elderly and vulnerable people.
Billy Nelson Smith, of Green Street Green Road, Dartford, was given 12-month and 18-month sentences, to run consecutively, for two counts of fraud.
He was also given two years for money laundering, to run concurrently.
Timothy Killick, aged 36, from Maidstone, was sentenced to a total of four-and-a-half years on fraud and money laundering charges.
The sentencing at Canterbury Crown Court on September 2 follows a two-year inquiry by detectives.

Rather than coming on here trying to defend them, most normal, sane people would be on here totally embarrassed to actually be related to this scum, and no doubt offer some sort of apology to their victims. Obviously you are far from a normal, sane person Im sorry to say.

Do you not think robbing Grannies and Grandads of their pensions is as henious a crime as any?
These urchins stole nearly £1million from 43 innocent people . Their actions weren't one off occurences were they? They were obviously callously calculating and preying on their victims.
They're only about one level from being a rapist as it happens - I mean how much lower can you get than robbing the elderly and vunerable?

You state you have a twelve year old brother who is affected by this, well maybe your father should have thought about him and the rest of your family before he decided to scam and rip of the elderly and the vulnerable. I am sure your comments would be o so different if it had been your grandparents that had been ripped off for thousands of pounds by a load of scum bags.
I am not apologising for my comments or my point of view, as in my book they are disgusting people. O and I am far from being sad darling and I do have a wonderful life thank you very much, which doesnt involve scamming the elderly.

Since you can offer no evidence to the contrary, it is likely that the public will believe the judgement until such a time that they successfully appeal their sentence. Is that likely?

My comment is simply this, no you do not have to tell us, but if you want any form of sympathy then you should consider doing so. Until then, we can only go on the facts as reported, which indicate that your father and brother are basic criminals who deserve more than the ludicrously light sentences which were passed on them. I can only assume that if you truly feel that a miscarriage of justice has taken place, that you will firstly be appealing against the sentences, (in which case, from the information available I hope will be suitably INCREASED) and secondly suing the journals who have reported the case.

Maryjo stop coming on here under different names. You wont tell us your side of this story so therefore Im afraid you will have to put up with people making up their own assumptions, the most prominent being that your family are scum and robbing or conning the elderly is as Moi said a heinous crime.
You may also want to take a visit to your local community college I am sure they run evening classes in English Language, you may pick up some good tips.
