ROAD users are being advised to take extra care during the rainy weather.

Kent Police has issued six tips to help people stay safe and avoid accidents:

  • Check the weather forecast and road conditions before you travel.
  • Poor weather conditions mean it can be harder for drivers to see pedestrians and cyclists so make sure you can be seen however you are travelling - including using lights or wearing high visibility clothing.
  • In poor visibility be extra alert for hazards.
  • Be careful - keep well within designated speed limits and slow down where there is surface water.
  • Be visible - use your lights so other drivers can see you and ensure your windows are demisted. Before you set off on a journey check your fuel, lights, tyres, engine fluids and wipers.
  • Be vigilant - keep a safe distance from other vehicles and allow extra room to slow down and stop. Avoid sudden braking, acceleration and sharp turns.
