LEWISHAM residents are invited to join in a celebration of London becoming an Olympic host city.
The Olympic handover flag will be raised in Cornmill Gardens at 2.30pm on Sunday (August 24) to coincide with other UK regions doing the same.
And the gardens will be transformed into a forest of flags, including some designed by residents and children with Olympic themes.
Lewisham disabled swimmer Rebecca Harding, who has has been a talent scouted for the 2012 Paralympic Games, will be on hand to help raise the flag.
As part of the free event, which begins at 1.30pm, the Lewisham Concert Band will play a selection of sporting themes and refreshments will be served.
Chairman of the London 2012 Organising Committee, Sebastian Coe said: "We are delighted that so many local authorities share our excitement and are proudly displaying the Olympic Handover Flag to mark this very special moment on our journey to 2012."
