A PASSENGER had to be cut free from a car after it collided with a garden wall in Welling.

Emergency services were called to Okehampton Crescent just before 2am today, where a man in his early 20s was trapped inside a car.

It is thought the driver lost control of the car while driving through a chicane on the road, before colliding with a front garden wall and a tree.

The driver - who is also in his early 20s - managed to escape from the vehicle without injury.

But the passenger had to be cut free and removed on a spinal-board, before being taken to hospital.

That road is known for speeding down it and has some sharp bends in it.
Hope the guy is ok though!

Could they have been drinking? 2am in the morning? hope they are ok, its easy to mis-judge a bend in the road or bad road conditions, which ever it was. kill your speed!

Just before my comment gets taken the wrong way I am not claiming this guy was speeding, I jsut know how bad a road it is, even going at 30 it can catch you unaware. Its a **** of a road!

Firstly let me say I hope the guy is ok and makes a full recovery but we all know he was not doing 30mph don't we? Something really needs to be done as most young deaths on our roads seem to happen in the early hours of the morning. So you all of you out there SLOW DOWN it is not clever to speed and race!

this was outside my bedroom window: I heard the car whizzing up the road before the "thud". yes, speeding indeed, I thought it was a police car on chase. In attendance: 3 police cars, 1 police van, 2 ambulances, 2 paramedic cars, 3 fire engines. 1 and a half hours before everyone left. wreckage is a right sight. I walk my kids to sch. down this road everyday - this is not a nice sight. Just saw the driver pull up to collect stuff from car: I think he knows he wasn't being clever last night.

'the driver lost control of the car while driving through a chicane on the road ' well, 'A chicane used as a form of traffic calmingA chicane is a sequence of tight serpentine curves (usually an S-shape curve or a bus stop) in a roadway, used in motor racing and on city streets to slow cars' - so which was it? racing on t street or unable even to negotiate a simple speed-controlling device - either way I think it makes him an inept driver - cancel his licence and make him take a re-test!

I never see these type of accidents as I have to be in bed for work next day. Why do people blame the roads its not the roads its the flipping drivers!!! I bet this kid knew the road and the traffic calming measures are a challenge not a deterrent!

And what do the council and the police do to stop this kind of road behaviour? Not all of this is preventable, but it would be quite easy to catch and ban the worst offenders and to calm down traffic in hot spots like this.

Although there are a lot of idiots around our roads, some of the traffic calming measures in Bexley are a liability to the average road user. Being forced to weave in and out on a straight road is nonsence. I ride a motorbike and the Bexley roads are a nightmare and quite scarey in places. On Okehampton you are in places forced to drive almost head on to oncoming cars in places. Other 'mad' layouts are by the chemist in Pickford, just past Crook Log pool to turn right up to Avenue Road and the general road conditions are appauling. How about the good old traffic calming method? Police patrol cars!! Havent seen one of those during rush hour for about 10 years now.

bit like the bell end who responded in this manor ! aware of all the facts are you ? have the accident investgation report in front of you do you ? no of course not, hence why you are as brain dead as the " tosser " at the wheel !
