AN OFFICER was stabbed in the face with a screwdriver as he tried to stop a suspect this morning (August 19).

The policeman had been called to reports of three men trying to break into a house in Abbey Grove, Abbey Wood, at 4.49am.

He caught one of them and was attacked with a screwdriver while trying to restrain him.

The weapon caught him half an inch from the eye and he was taken to hospital where he needed two stitches before being sent home.

A youth was arrested near the scene shortly after the incident and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Two men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested this afternoon on suspicion of attempted burglary and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

They are in custody at a south London police station.

Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious this morning should call the police on 020 8284 9591 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Years ago if you done this sort of thing you would have been jailed, released on bail what the hell has this country come to.If the screw driver would have been one inch from his heart would it have been attempted murder?,i think not it seems you can almost commit certain crimes and not receive any time in prison, this man(scum) has been given bail,WHY because the crime is deemed as not that serious.Oh what a sorry state we live in?

I think the translation is thus:

One hopes that the Officers of the Metropolitan Police take the offenders to a quiet area in teh Police station and undertake a round of personal education.

Personal education in this instance should invole a few size 11 boots to every part of the offenders anatomy as well as a few well placed thumbs in the eye sockets!

Hope that's clearer....

What was the police officer doing going after 3 men on his own surly he would of had a partner with him?

Toni from Crayford. Police officers to not hold hands and walk/run everywhere. It is possible that the crew mate was just behind, around the corner, parking the car, on the radio or even chasing after a fourth suspect etc etc ...

Suspects do not say "hey copper, go and get your mate cos we're about to jump you ..."

Get my drift?
