A GROUP of retailers are in favour of a regeneration project despite it including a 100m tall apartment block.
The group, which is known as "Yes to Gravesend", is all for the plans because it believes the town will benefit from it.
Richard Lukes, owner of Richard Lukes Jewellery, which is based in the St Georges Centres, Gravesend, is a spokesman for the group of 12 retailers.
Mr Lukes believes the plans will benefit the town and will bring more people into it. He also thinks the architecture of the proposed tower looks "very nice".
The 61-year-old said: "I think the plans are a great idea. Everyone I have spoken to who has a business in Gravesend wants it to go-ahead."
Developer Edinburgh House Estates Ltd is also proposing to build walkways leading to the river, a new town square, a hotel, restaurants and offices.
Subject to planning approval from Gravesham Council, work on the project is expected to start early next year and should be complete by 2013.
