NEW regulations could be imposed in a bid to make the drinks industry and drinkers act more responsibly. What do you think?

A crackdown is on the cards, which could see new measures such as happy hours in pubs being curbed and stricter labelling on drinks.

The Government has launched a consultation on proposed new laws in the wake of figures showing there were more than 800,000 hospital admissions last year for alcohol-related injuries and diseases.

It has been announced that drink-related illnesses cost the NHS £2.7bn a year.

Who is to blame for the alcohol problems in this country - Government, individuals or the drinks industry?

Have cheap drinks prices had a negative effect? Would measures such as clearer labelling to show how many units are in each drink make any difference to the amount people drink?

Should people start acting more responsibly and restricting what they drink? Would any new laws just end up punishing sensible drinkers?

Sadly, it seems nothing can be done to curb drink fuelled anti social behaviour on the streets.Otherwise we would have seen a reduction by now.
I also know of a couple of responsable drinkers, that are drinking more indoors now, due to the fact it's not very safe going to the local on a friday night!

I thin this two tier scenario we have is confusing and unfair.

Surely if you are legally old enough to drink alcohol you should be able to purchase it.

I agree there is a big problem with underage drinkers. We need to enforce the existing regulation and stop shopkeepers selling to minors.

Particulary the independent off licences /convenience stores.

I think that we should be looking at a total ban on drinking alcohol on our streets. There is absolutely no need for anyone to consume alcohol in a public place unless they are attending a specific event. Some of the borough's towns already have alcohol exclusion zones surely it makes sense to stop people drinking in residential areas.
