Arrest in student double murder inquiry
Gabriel Ferez

A 21-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in connection with the murder of two French students in New Cross.

Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez, both 23, were bound, stabbed repeatedly and set alight in a bedsit in Sterling Gardens on Sunday evening (June 29).

A man was arrested in a street in south-east London at 3.40am and taken into custody in connection with the inquiry into what police have called a "horrific" murder.

Detectives have said items, including games consoles, may have been stolen from the flat, which had been rented by Mr Bonomo.

In an earlier incident, on June 23 between 5am and 6am, Mr Bonomo's black Packard Bell laptop was stolen from the bedsit while he was in the shower.

Investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Mick Duthie said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who has recently been offered the laptop and two personal game consoles, or knows someone who has unexpectedly come to have them.

"The search of the address is not yet completed, but we have established that two Sony PSPs are missing and believe they were taken during the incident on Sunday when the two men were killed."

Police have issued a number of appeals for witnesses and are looking for a white man who was seen leaving the block of flats shortly after the fire started.

Mr Bonomo and Mr Ferez where both biochemists and had been doing research in protein chains in DNA at Imperial College, London.

They had come to London at the end of May and were due to return to France at the end of July.

Mr Bonomo - from Velaux, near Marseille - and Mr Ferez - from Prouzel, near Amiens - were studying for a Masters degree in biochemistry at the Polytech Clermont-Ferrard.

Bring the DP back. It's illegal in Minnestoa because MN is such a stinky lefty state. We had two (black) teen boys stab a mother over 100 times and smash a tv over her 10 year olds head. She was from Chicago and her other 'baby boy' did happen to be in prison. It's now all so typical.
