Angered by new homes
ANGRY residents have criticised a council for granting outline planning permission to a developer which wants to build 464 new homes.
Gravesham Council has approved Land Securities' initial plans to build houses on land south of Northfleet as well as 167,000sq m for office space and car parking with supporting roads.
Plans for the development, which would sit north of Ebbsfleet International station and west of Blue Lake, were submitted to the council in April.
The Northfleet Rise project, which includes 3.75 hectares of public open space, would form part of the firm's Ebbsfleet Valley development, which aims to create 10,000 new homes across 100 acres near Northfleet and Swanscombe.
Northfleet resident Michael George, 53, who lives in Factory Road, said: "I'm angry with the council for putting this one through.
"If you look around the area, it is just houses, houses and more houses being built.
"You never hear about a school being built, or a sports centre or a hospital."
The married father-of-two added: "It is very short-sighted of the council and makes me very
irritated."
But the vice chairman of the council's regulatory board which granted the outline consent has tried to reassure residents it is only the ideas which have been given the green light, and developers have a lot more to prove.
Councillor Harold Craske said: "This particular project has been given outline planning consent, which means the general layout looks good, but until we get the full application then we can't say for certain.
"It is the strategy which we have approved.
"When we receive the detailed planning application we will check adequate provisions are included."
However youth worker Neil Sherress, 47, who also lives in Factory Road, said: "It is turning into a concrete jungle around here.
"I always check my back garden in the morning to make sure no-one has built on it.
"The council is losing a lot of respect from people around here for approving all these developments."
Land Securities' development director Adam Cunnington said: "We have incorporated a significant amount of investment in local
infrastructure, including comprehensive energy and water systems as well as the wider long-term provision of health, education and leisure facilities.
"This will be essential in supporting the population growth which has been forecast for the region in the next 25 years."

[bold]Northfleet[/bold] is a drab, scruffy pimple on the bum of [bold]North Kent[/bold].
The new development will enliven the area and the residents should accept the fact that they must move out of the [bold]Middle Ages[/bold].
If you don't like it, move to [bold]Erith[/bold].

[bold]Gavin[/bold], as it is a nice day, get your tattoos out and have a walk around [bold]Primark[/bold] to calm yourself down.
Luckily for you, [bold]Iceland[/bold] is directly opposite, so once you have stocked up on cheap, downmarket and garish clothes, you can pop over the road to buy your dinner in a box.

Why do you think the counil is happy to grant planning permission? 464 homes = 468 x £1500 (approx counil tax income) = approx 700k in extra money.

Why is this such a problem, we are told that their is need for more housing in this country, Their are waiting lists for social housing up to their eyeballs! housing is needed and have to be built, New Towns have been apearing for years so why not get people in homes which are required and help them. I myself cannot complain having a roof over my head I am happy with, but think of the people who do need them... not just yourselves...

Good luck do hope that one day you are not in need as some people are.

I know of developments built now, intended for key workers.Full of able bodied, unemployed people, that want nothing more than to have everything provided for free.Yes, there are deserving cases, that need to be addressed.Equally, why keep bringing kids into the world, if you haven't got anywhere to go?
