Jury out in care worker murder case
 |
| Victim: Magda Pniewska |
THE jury in the trial of a teenager accused of murdering a Polish care worker has retired to consider its verdict.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denies murdering Magda Pniewska, 26, who was killed in New Cross on October 2 last year when a stray bullet hit her in the head.
The Old Bailey has heard how she was caught in crossfire between two youths when taking a short-cut home through a car park.
The defendant, from Streatham Hill, who denies murder and attempted murder, has told the court he did not realise a woman had been killed until he was fleeing the scene.
He said the other youth fired at him and he let off a couple of shots into the air to scare him off.
He has admitted to possessing a gun but pleaded not guilty to possessing a gun to endanger life, saying he intended to sell it for a friend.
The second teenager was also arrested but has not been charged, the court heard.
